If you are a betting man and took a lot of favorites over the past five weeks, your pockets are pretty empty. I feel your pain (except my pockets were never involved in the wagering).
After a great nine-win week four, I stunk up the joint with only three correct picks last week. Season tally is 23 of 50.
On to this week's picks.
As always, Pigskin Grind is not a tout service and is not liable for any monetary gains or losses incurred by one who wagers these picks. These selections are for entertainment purposes only.
Picks are in bold.
Marshall -5.5 Southern Miss
I'm sold on Marshall. I'm not all in on Southern Miss although the Eagles have vastly improved. This game should be tight but Marshall pulls it out with a touchdown late to cover the spread. Lay the points.
Indiana +8.5 at Penn State
The Hoosiers have a decent offense (No. 1 in the Big Ten). The Nittany Lions do not (No. 14 in the Big Ten). Indiana came close to upsetting Ohio State on Saturday—do the Hoosiers fulfill their destiny this Saturday? Take the points.
Western Kentucky -9.5 v Middle Tennessee State
This was a tough pick because the Blue Raiders have a fun offense. I just cannot pick against the Hilltoppers. They are an offensive juggernaut. Lay the points.
Pitt v -8.5 v Virginia
It's not that I am super impressed with Pitt. I'm just thoroughly unimpressed with Virginia. The Panthers beat Virginia Tech so beating Virginia would complete the "bifecta."
UMass +12.5 at Bowling Green
For three consecutive weeks the Minutemen have kept some tough games close albeit they suffered a brutal third quarter against Notre Dame. UMass is due. Take the points.
Wisconsin +1.5 at Nebraska
The Badgers are getting points. Repeat: the Badgers are getting points. Take the points and run.
Ball State +10.5 at Northern Illinois
The Huskies are deceptively better than their record indicates but the Cardinals have been good to me this season. Take the points.
Boise State -15.5 at Colorado State
The Broncos have spanked 50+ points on their opponents for three consecutive weeks. Shall we make it four? Lay the points.
Navy +14.5 at Notre Dame
Maybe the Fighting Irish will get caught sleeping looking ahead to USC. This game will be closer than the experts think.
Arizona Cardinals -3.5 at Detroit Lions
Yup, I snuck an NFL pick in. The Cardinals' defense is so good right now I could not help myself. Lay the points.
