Last week did not get off to a good start. I hit 50 percent on 10 picks. Time to make amends!
This week we will see more underdogs. And more big point spreads.
As always, these picks are for entertainment purposes only. PigskinGrind is not a tout service and is not liable for any losses or gains incurred by those who use these picks.
Picks are in bold.
Rutgers - 2.5 v Washington State
The Cougars lost to Portland State. I know, it was opening week and there were opening day jitters. Against an FCS school. Not good, Coach Leach. Not good.
SMU - 4.5 v North Texas
Chad Morris has got these ponies running! SMU hung with Baylor for over a half before losing 56-21. SMU has a great offense and should cover against the Mean Green.
Iowa St. +3.5 v Iowa
Check the history of this series. The Iowa State Cyclones have covered in three of the last four games as the underdog. Three of the last four games have been decided by three points or less. I am picking Iowa State to cover for the fourth straight year.
South Carolina -7.5 v Kentucky
I was not very impressed with either team last week but Kentucky struggled with Louisiana Lafayette while South Carolina struggled with North Carolina. Clearly, South Carolina is the better team.
Nebraska -26.5 v South Alabama
Come on. The Cornhuskers should have this covered by the half.
USC -43.5 v Idaho
The Vandals' biggest weapon, Dezmon Epps, was supended for this game, according to Spokesman-Review. Not that this made a difference, it was just worth noting. USC covers the spread by the half.
Michigan State -4.5 v Oregon
Sparty is mad. Sparty wants revenge. The Ducks' defense will be punished.
San Jose State +3.5 at Air Force
It's not that I am impressed with San Jose State. I'm just less impressed with Air Force. This is all about the veteran Spartans' offense testing a Falcon defese that only returns four starters.
LSU -3.5 at Mississippi State
Here is what you need to know about me: I am not buying the the state of football in Mississippi for the third straight year. The Tigers have yet to play a game but their talent is superior to the Bulldogs' cowbell.
Marshall -3.5 at Ohio
I heart Marshall. This is a gut bet. No logic involved whatsoever.
