For the next 14 weeks, yours truly will rock your world with college football picks. While PigskinGrind is not a tout site, the purveyor of this fine digital sports bar has a very good track record. Last year I went 62-of-110. That is against the spread, not straight up.
Every week I will post 10 games and their corresponding odds. I will keep a running tally as well.
All games are on Saturday, September 5 unless otherwise noted. My picks are in bold.
Oklahoma State -23.5 at Central Michigan on September 3
The Cowboys return eight starters on both sides of the ball. Central Michigan has a new head coach and only returns 10 total starters. I've got the Cowboys winning by at least four touchdowns.
Vanderbilt v Western Kentucky (PICK)
The Commodores' football program has fallen down and it can't get up. The good news is that Vandy returns almost everyone from last year. The bad news is that those same fellas struggled to beat UMass 34-31.
Hawai'i +7.5 v Colorado on September 3
While I think Colorado will squeak out a win, I think this will be a VERY tight game. Why? This is a 10 p.m. game (PT) on a Thursday night. The #Pac12AfterDark games are legendary nailbiters. The Buffs should be on upset alert.
Kent State +14.5 at Illinois on September 4
Illini head coach Tim Beckman was fired last week so that is a major distraction. Illinois should win if the defense steps up but I don't think it wins by more than two touchdowns.
Louisville +10.5 at Auburn at Atlanta
Auburn only returns four starters on the offense while Louisville returns five. This game will be riddled with penalties as the players try to work out the kinks and bugs. For that reason, I'm predicting a low scoring game.
Ohio State -11 at Virginia Tech on September 7
How many points will Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer run up to avenge last year's loss? I know the Hokies are sleepers but this game will be a blow out.
Stanford -12 at Northwestern
In the battle of the nerds, Stanford is still king of the nerds.
Michigan State -19 at Western Michigan on September 4
Will Sparty look ahead to Oregon? No. Michigan State will be on a quest for more respect behind highly underrated quarterback Connor Cook.
Baylor -35.5 at SMU on September 4
The Bears will have the spread covered by halftime, no?
USC -29 vs Arkansas State
The Trojans have had some distractions to deal with but that should not interfere with their complete annihilation of Arkansas State. Remember, last year USC lead Notre Dame 35-0 in the second quarter.
